Dealing Typography

Redefining Typography Through a Deck of Cards

As a culmination of my typography semester, I undertook the challenge of crafting a deck of cards, each meticulously showcasing a font corresponding to every letter of the alphabet. Driven by a swift conceptualization, I eagerly immersed myself in this project, keen to explore its creative depths.

Layout Ideation

Navigating Thumbnail
Sketches and Font Curations

Thumbnail sketches became my initial canvas, with about five iterations sparking the precise direction for the project. I envisioned a layout that prominently featured each font’s letter alongside the ampersand, igniting visual intrigue. The task of curating 26 distinct fonts, each aligning with its alphabet counterpart, ensued, involving a thorough examination of numerous options to maintain the elegant thematic underpinning.

Creating Cohesion

Overcoming Challenges and Refining Layouts

With a curated font arsenal at hand, I commenced laying out the first card, setting the stage for the remaining 25. Crafting a complementary typographic pattern for the card backs to highlight the featured letter posed another challenge, necessitating careful consideration and template development. Despite encountering hurdles, such as font compatibility issues with the intended layouts, each setback spurred iterative refinement toward the project’s ultimate success.
